On this Drive Time music review I will review the new song, “Comeback Kid”, from Sleigh Bells upcoming album, Reign of Terror.
Sleigh Bells, consisting of Derek E. Miller and Alexis Krauss is one of musical “duos” to watch. While Miller uses deep bass drums, dirty synths, and equally dirty guitars to build a wave of sound that knocks the listener in the head, sexy Krausses rock star like swagger and singing makes her one of the most “assertive” female singers since Shirley Manson of Garbage. And while songs like “Tell ‘em” and “Infinity Arms” spans across several kinds of music, the new song “Comeback Kid” takes further down the tightrope of multiple genres.
“Comeback Kid” starts with a slightly complicated rhythm, then sonic wave kicks in with a deep bass that can rattle windows at the right volume. And while one starts to involuntarily start nodding one’s head to the beat, Krauss starts on the lyrics with a innocent voice eerily similar to Janet Jackson’s. Miller occasionally instills a rapid fire “drum and bass” percussion riff that reminds me of a musical machinegun which incredibly fits the overall slower rhythm.
I’m pretty sure some DJ, such as Diplo or Skrillez, will do a remix that will be played in Ibiza this summer. Check out “Comeback Kid” out and I will keep my fingers crossed that the rest of the album is as banging as this song.
